Mount Baker Bicycle Club COVID-19 Policy
The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting nearly every aspect of private and public life. Government and health officials have called for significant changes to our social behavior this year in order to slow the spread of the virus.
The Mt. Baker Bicycle Club has therefore adopted the following policy, which has been in effect since March 2020:
While it is important that we continue to recreate—and being outside and at a socially safe distance is certainly one way we can maintain community and check in with each other—we have a responsibility to stand with the rest of our community and to take whatever steps we can to slow the spread of the virus. Although the odds of transmission of the virus are extremely low among members during group rides, new information continues to emerge showing danger of contagion even amongst cyclists in groups outdoors. Whatcom County has asked that group events be cancelled through the year.
For those reasons, no MBBC official group rides will take place until further notice.
This does not mean we can't get out and ride our bikes. Just consider riding solo or in groups of 2-3 people from the same household, until officials advise that it is once again safe to congregate in larger groups.
