It’s the 2019 Bellingham Tweed Ride On October 19th

Typically the first question that arises when someone mentions a Tweed Ride is what is it and what does it mean? The short answer is that a Tweed Ride is a throwback to days-gone-by in England where family members would dress in their very best clothing for an outing. It involves a grand picnic lunch and even boarding a local train with bicycles in order to travel out to the beautiful and inviting countryside. Ultimately, family members would ride their bicycles home to complete a full round trip Tweed Ride.

Smartest Looking Outfits

When the weather was accommodating back then, these country rides was an experience that was anticipated all year long. People of all ages wearing only the smartest looking outfits and riding cycles was indeed a sight to behold. Today, some things have changed while a lot has stayed the same with regard to the Tweed Ride. The same fanfare and excitement is re-created in a true spirit of days-gone by with the Bellingham Tweed Ride.

Autumn is Here

Don’t worry if your bicycle is not elaborate, fast or impressive. All bicycles are acceptable when it comes to the fun filled Tweed Ride. It’s really a great way to get out and enjoy autumn and the beautiful fall colors. This is a chance for you and your cycling friends to get out for a fun, energetic and interesting day. Riders will enjoy a truly unique scenic route in a slow unhurried pace.

Classical Clothing

Expect ample amounts of socializing with other participants who are dressed in their “best” tweed clothing. Head for the attic or thrift store and find some classical clothing. It all begins at 10 AM on Saturday the 19th at Cafe Velo in downtown Bellingham.
